Advanced Connections Before Landing in Africa

This journey is NOT of the faint of heart. The ultimate key to success here on the continent of Africa is having the right connections. In western society, you're able to do a quick Google search to see what's what and come out with a quick and easy solution right off the bat.

In Africa, things aren't that simple for a variety of reasons. One reason is that every business or person who has expertise in a certain area isn't on the internet. Then, the ones that are on the internet may not have things that you're looking for due to a lack of proper advertising.

Instead of running around like a chicken with your head cut off, take the time to form meaningful connections before you even leave Canada, America, or Europe. This way, once you arrive things will already be in place to make your transition easier.

Here are practical steps to take RIGHT NOW so you can form connections and figure out where to go and who to speak to:

  • Join relevant Facebook groups for your destination (pick a country then try to pick a few cities)
  • Find African YouTubers and make connections within their communities in the comment section
  • Find local Africans on the ground through Facebook
  • Research local guides for your destination because they can usually point you in the direction of trusted lawyers, immigration, health, restaurants, and anything else you may need

The safety aspect when it comes to making connections in Africa is the most important out of everything you gather from this module.

God forbid you come across a horrible situation (theft, medical emergency, etc...) and you need to get in contact with trusted professionals. In various parts of Africa, police are not always the go-to. This is why you need an African friend who can tell and show you what to do in these situations.

We've heard of experiences where people get scammed because they didn't know about some of the schemes that happen here (and everywhere else in the world)

Below this lesson, you'll find a downloadable PDF with information for Facebook Groups and African YouTubers you can follow.

When we first arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania we literally knew no one and only knew someone from a consultation we paid $60 for. This ended up being well worth the money and she's still a connection to this day!
